DJ Nick Grimshaw has suffered online abuse from One Direction fans who mistakenly thought he mocked Louis Tomlinson as part of a light-hearted radio debate.
The 29 year-old was the subject of trolls on Monday after a discussion on his breakfast show focused on so-called 'annoying' celebrities.

As part of his morning broadcast segment 'Showquizness', Grimshaw asked who was more annoying than BRIT Award-winner Lorde.

In response, a series of names were mentioned by Grimshaw including Usher, Joey Essex and Kelly Osbourne. A moment later his producer, Ian Chaloner, mentioned Louis Tomlinson.
Within hours the openly-gay presenter was flooded with homophobic comments from people who also implied violent attacks against the TV personality.
One wrote: 'When is Louis Tomlinson gonna punch Nick Grimshaw in the face?'.

The abuse got so bad that eventually Grimshaw was forced to post a peace-keeping message on Twitter.
He wrote: 'hey 1D fans!!!!! i never mentioned the word 'Louis' on my show today so enough with the charming homophobic death threats yeh?'
But this isn't the first time that the two have been involved in a public spat.
In October 2013 Nick claimed Louis was 'complainy' after moaning that he couldn't leave his home because of paparazzi.

Naturally, fans took to the internet to vent their frustrations with Grimshaw, saying that they disliked him. Tomlinson himself then waded into the row, claiming that he preferred Grimshaw's Radio 1 predecessor Chris Moyles.
Soon after this his girlfriend, Eleanor Calder, joined in by adding: 'Me neither!' when someone tweeted: 'I never liked Grimmy anyway.'
