How long did you spend in front of the mirror this morning? Women dedicate 55 minutes a day to their appearance – the equivalent of two weeks a year!

Taking time: Women spend two full weeks of their lives on their appearance per year, according to a new survey

The average woman spends 55 minutes on her appearance every day - a figure that equates to two full weeks a year, a new study has found.
Research by The Today Show and AOL found that the figure is almost double that of the male average - with men spending only 4.5 hours on their appearance per week, compared with the female average of 6.4 hours.

Teens are even higher, spending 7.7 hours per week on their appearance.

The survey, which polled 2,000 adults and 200 teenagers, also discovered that 60per cent of adult women have negative thoughts about themselves at least once a week, compared to 36per cent of men.
That level of self-criticism spikes among teenaged girls. Seventy-eight per cent of female respondents aged 16-18 report having negative thoughts about their looks at least once a week.

And 77per cent of women admit that they have said negative things about their own appearance to someone in the last month. An even greater 80per cent of teens report the same thing.
Female participants’ chief concern was the stomach, with 69per cent calling it their 'bodily obsession'. Other women polled admitted that they were most self-conscious about their skin (40per cent), thighs (39per cent), hair (32per cent), cellulite (29per cent), and their butts (29per cent).
Men, by contrast, worry about their stomachs the most (52per cent), followed by thinning hair (24per cent), and then skin issues (23per cent).
The study also found that mothers have more negative thoughts about themselves (73per cent) than women without children (65per cent).
Fifty-seven per cent of mothers polled say that they worry about how their own self-image could affect that of their children.
